Important Car Maintenance - Tire Rotation

Keeping your car running smoothly requires consistent maintenance. Like any machine with moving parts, a car's engine can become worn down if not taken care of properly. There are parts that need lubrication and fluids, parts that need replacing, and parts that need rotating. Most owner's manuals in any vehicle have a list of all the maintenance and repairs that should be performed on a vehicle as well as when they should be done.

Everyone knows that getting your oil changed is important. Without oil your car won't last long before it begins to burn itself up. Oil changes should be the number one task that car owners make sure is taken care of every 3000 miles. But changing your oil isn't the only essential maintenance car owner's should be vigilant about. Another important task is rotating the tires. As you drive around, your tires begin to wear down in certain places. Each tire wears differently than the other.

Front tires wear differently than back tires. Driver side tires wear differently from passenger side tires. Leaving your tires as they are without rotating them can cause the tire's tread to wear down much faster than it normally would. It is also unsafe and can cause problems with the way your car drives. Tire rotation should be performed about every 6000 miles. An easy way to remember is to rotate your tires every other oil change or to write it down on a book or paper you keep in your glove box. Most auto repair shops will rotate your tires for you.
